October 2023 – Introducing Octavia Recommends!

As book lovers, we know that it can be daunting to choose what to read next. That’s why we’ve teamed up with Octavia, of Octavia’s Bookshop in Cirencester, to bring you regular recommendations of new and exciting children’s books.

Although our main focus as an organisation is helping children learn to read well, we also want to encourage a love for reading – and we know a great book can do just that! If you enjoy reading yourself, you’re more likely to pass on that joy to others, whether that be as a Read With Me volunteer, a parent, a teacher or a child.

For her first instalment, Octavia recommends the very aptly titled October, October by Katya Balen. Take a look below to see why she recommends it for children aged eight all the way to grownups!

What else are we up to in October?

October half-term will see the return of our Not So Secret Book Club to Gloucestershire!

We’d love you to join us for a special Halloween edition Not So Secret Book Club, featuring spooky crafts, a treasure trail and of course, lots of storytime!

You can find us at:

  • Robinswood Hill on Tuesday the 31st October, from 11am-2pm!
  • Wotton Baptist Church on Friday the 3rd November from 10am-12pm!

As always, our events are FREE to attend and we will also have plenty of pre-loved book for you to take home and continue the fun. No need to book, just turn up!
