Give the Gift of Reading this Christmas – The Perfect Present for A Loved One!

This festive season, if you find yourself scratching your head searching for the ideal gift for those who seem to have everything and need nothing, consider giving a child the Gift of Reading on their behalf. Imagine the delight on your loved one’s face when they realise that, instead of receiving yet another unwanted present, they’ve helped a child in Gloucestershire learn to read well.

What is the Gift of Reading?

When you donate £10, £25 or £50 on behalf of a loved one, they will be helping a child access one-to-one reading support with our dedicated volunteers. Each session lasts around 15 minutes and helps to improve a child’s literacy and social skills, as well as their confidence.

Currently, 1 in 4 five-year-olds struggle with basic vocabulary. £50 will cover the cost of hearing a child read, twice a week, for an entire year. Your donation will ensure that a child in one of the areas of greatest deprivation receives life-changing reading support so that they can take a full part in education.

How will they know I’ve donated on their behalf?

We will send your loved one a special gift in the post on your behalf to say thank you! Our beautiful hand-tied bookmarks are the perfect reminder that learning to read well can, and will, change lives. We also include a handwritten note to show our appreciation – we couldn’t continue to offer our service to the children of Gloucestershire without the generosity of people like you.

An example of the special gift that will be sent to your friends or family.

How do I give?

Luckily, you’re already in the right place!

  • You can use the tabs above to visit our Donate page or you can click here.
  • Scroll down to the Gift of Reading section and select how much you’d like to give – remember it costs us just £50 to hear a child read for an entire year.
  • Enter your details and where you’d like us to send a thank you message, along with a hand-tied bookmark and postcards.
  • We’ll take care of the rest and make sure your loved one receives their gift before Christmas (please note the last order date to ensure arrival before the big day is the 19th of December).

This Christmas, spread the joy of literacy by donating on behalf of a friend, colleague or relative. You’ll be giving the gift that lasts a lifetime.
